Relationship Advice Tip 3 Give Compliments
There is a saying that if you are grateful for the small things in life, more good things will come your way. However, if you moan and complain all the time at your partner, than he or she will likely shy away from you, making them less likely to do what it is you want or need.
Sometimes it’s easy to look at our relationship, especially ones where there are lots of problems and to struggle to find something positive to say. For your own sanity find something. Just one genuine nice comment can bring such a smile to your partners face, that it might just change their whole day and way of relating with you. Over time, if you are both reinforcing the good things you love and appreciate about each other, you will become closer.
Don’t just think about what they do and don’t do for you or the family, switch your thinking to think about who they are as a person and what qualities you love about them. What you can be grateful for.
I developed a new habit 6 months ago that is working well for me, so I thought I would share it. Every morning, I do not let myself get out of bed until I have listed 5 things mentally in my head that I am grateful for. As despite my best intentions sometimes finding just 10 minutes to sit down and write a gratitude list seemed hard. If you can do this thinking about one thing you are grateful for about your partner and relationship before leaving the bed and making a point to share it, your relationship will become stronger. Especially if it is really genuine and heartfelt. A simple “thanks” or “you’re great” doesn’t cut it, be specific and make a real difference to the way you connect.
